A familiar nursery rhyme unravels—and in its place, a new narrative takes hold.
Running Out of the Rhyme draws from the visual language of childhood storytelling, where rhythm and repetition once offered certainty. Here, that structure fractures. The figure, crowned with a delicate but cracked dish, moves forward on a motorcycle, no longer bound to the script, but propelled into a future of their own making. The spoon, held in the little dog’s mouth becomes a quiet reminder of what is left behind. Layered collage elements, embedded text, and botanical forms create a tension between past and present, control and release. The composition intentionally disrupts direction, inviting the viewer to reconsider where the story is headed, and who determines its course. Rooted in themes of autonomy and transformation, this work is part of my ongoing Freedom and Social Justice series, where inherited narratives are examined, dismantled, and reimagined and a self-defined future begins.
